We received a message from Ally for this song suggestion saying:
"I like stop and stare because it feels kinda like Peeta/Katniss"

Now usually I avoid falling into the implied Gale/Madge trap, but when I heard this song I decided to post it for all of you. It is probably to sweet for the Hunger Games, but I chose Taylor Swift's Invisible for this song suggestion.

Today we were hit with a wonderful surprise. Lionsgate has released some of the artists for the hunger games soundtrack.
"Country singer Taylor Swift will lead a host of musicians collaborating with Oscar-winning artist T. Bone Burnett for a companion album to the upcoming film, “The Hunger Games.”
Movie studio Lionsgate said on Friday that Burnett has joined forces with Swift, The Decemberists, Arcade Fire and The Civil Wars to create original songs for the film, set for release in March 2012.
“We are thrilled to have such a hauntingly beautiful companion album taking shape,” said Joe Drake, co-COO of Lionsgate."

The Meaning
UPDATE: Congrats to Suzzane Collins, Taylor Swift, and Lionsgate for Safe and Sound making it to the top single on itunes. This is quite a feat to fly to the top of the charts in about 18 hours.

Safe and Sound is most likely about Rue's death. When I hear the song I can picture Katniss placing flowers in Rue's hair. The emotion in that scene is expressed greatly in this song. Even in the recent hours there has been some speculation on the meaning of Safe and Sound, but we compared the book and song and this is what we found:)

"Don't Go" Rue tightens her grip on my hand. - Suzzane Collins

"Course not staying right here" - Suzzane Collins

"Good and Safe" (Katniss) - Suzzane Collins

Just Close Your Eyes - Safe and Sound

I remember when you said don't leave me alone - Safe and Sound

Nobody can hurt you know - Safe and Sound

These were taken from Safe and Sound and The Hunger Games (We own nothing)

"Reaction to getting the role:
I couldn’t speak. I was so excited. It was literally you got the part…….ah ah I couldn’t say anything. I’m never speechless and I was.
Most nerve-wracking thing taking on this role:
It’s somewhat nerve-wracking to know that so many fans hold it so close to their heart and they want to see it done right. And I definitely want to do that right by them. But at the same time I think it’s more exciting to know that you have that many people that are that excited to see your portrayal of the role and portrayal of the movie and everything. So, I’m very excited about it.
One similarity between Josh and Peeta:
I can bake. Actually I can. I make a mean apple pie. A French apple pie, that’s how good I am. I can bake a little. I’ve made some loaves of bread, that weren’t that bad actually. But I’m more of a grill master. I doing the grilling kinda thing. Being from Kentucky, like the barbeque, that’s more up my alley.
One difference between Josh and Peeta:
I’d like to say I’m a little more, a little, stronger than Peeta is in the sense of a person. I think Peeta is a little younger and so has a little more to learn about life. And kind of living in the districts and not being in a free country, I think you are a kinda sheltered a lot. So I think I’m a little more worldly and a little more well versed in the ways of life than Peeta is.
Physical and emotional challenges of filming:
Physically, the stuff where I was laying in the riverbed when Katniss finds me and I’m covered in moss and all that. That was tough cause I had to literally lay there for like almost 2 hours and not move while in this full body makeup that was really intense, it looks incredible. That was very trying physically.
Emotionally, all the stuff in the cave between Katniss and myself, that’s like our entire character like relationship moment right there. And to shoot all those scenes in only a few days was tough, but I think we really did a great job with it.
Other actors that nailed their role:
The obvious one is Jennifer. I think Jennifer’s portrayal of Katniss is so spot on and she really does encapsulate Katniss’ strength as a heroine perfectly honestly. So she to me is the one who stands out immediately. But between Woody with Haymitch, and Elizabeth, and Caeaser Flickerman, everybody was so spot on with their roles it was just kind of amazing to see it sort of come to life right off the page.
Chemistry with Jennifer:
Jennifer and I, it was like instant chemistry. I think that we both were from kinda the same part of the country. We sort of had the same sort of upbringing. So we’re similar in that sense. And then we’re both just real people. We’re not about anything except for just having a good time and just hanging out and so I think that we connected on that for sure.
Who would win in a real life Hunger Games, Josh, Jennifer or Liam?
That’s a tough question! Honestly, I grew up like playing outside, and playing in the woods and I’m very into like camping and survivalist kind of things. I watch a lot of Man vs Wild. So I feel like I’m well prepared in that sense. But it’d be a close one. I might be a front runner in that battle, I’m not sure." - (CB, 2011)

"Colors From The Capitol," inspired by the glitzily dressed rich people who live in the Capitol and watch the titular Hunger Games-- fights to the death among teenage kids-- for fun. The Capitol residents are far from the heroes of the story, and Katniss generally makes fun of them and their outlandish clothes when she arrives at the Capitol for the Games, but there are a few Capitol residents who earn her respect, most notably her stylist Cinna. The Capitol residents aren't exactly the characters you'll walk away from The Hunger Gameswanting to be, but you may want to steal a few of their insane fashion tips." - cinemablend.com

"Popstar recently held their top 12 of 2012 event and they invited a few stars of The Hunger Games to attend. Maximo TV caught up with Willow Shields at the event. Of course they talked about the subject everybody wants to know about, which is the movie. You can hear what she had to say about the movie and much more in the interesting interview down below.

I am happy to see that the stars of the smaller roles are getting media attention. It seems like that they are often overlooked at. However, I suppose you can say that nobody really has a small role in the movie. Each of the one characters are critical to the tale so in all reality all of the stars should get at least some media attention. That would only be fair, in my opinion at least.
Are you happy to see that Willow is getting some attention for her the movie? I am and it will help her name get out there even more. It seems like this movie might launch their careers in the big time, much like what Harry Potter and Twilight Saga did for their stars. So I think we should all get used to hearing about them as we approach next year."(December, 2011, http://www.bsckids.com/2011/12/willow-shields-talks-about-the-hunger-games/)

"After weeks of leaked info and denials, Lionsgate is finally giving us a clear answer about its rumored collaboration on a Hunger Games nail polish: It’s a go! The studio is indeed partnering with China Glaze to release a line of polishes inspired by the dystopian movie. However, according to the press release, the colors are inspired only by the Capitol — where Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) do interviews and win over the crowds before going into the Games themselves — and not District 12:

In keeping with the powerful themes and messages of the story, the collection of nail polish will be inspired exclusively by one of the book’s distinct settings—the Capitol of the nation of Panem. Awash in lavish fashion, food, and entertainment, Capitol citizens enjoy extreme cosmetics and body modifications, bold wigs, and outlandish costumes.

Interestingly, this change resembles the strategy that io9 suggested a week or so ago: To play off the Capitol’s insane beauty standards and market the polish as part of Katniss’ makeover that she receives in the movie. Now the question is whether the official line will have colors like Octavia’s pea-green skin dye and the scary magenta makeup worn by Elizabeth Banks as Effie, or if they’ll stick with basically the bottom row in the original leaked photo. (We’ve reached out to Lionsgate but haven’t heard back yet.)

So it sounds like Lionsgate and China Glaze (or its parent company, American International Industries) are no longer fighting. Since the lawsuit that American was bringing against Lionsgate was about the studio not acknowledging the partnership, all seems to be hunky-dory now that they’ve sent out a press release.

The collection will be available in stores on March 1, 2012, just a few weeks before the movie hits theaters.

The lead singer for 'The Design' was inspired by the hunger games for a new single called 'Burn'.

I was literally reading The Hunger Games series (I think I read all three books in maybe two weeks, could NOT put them down) at the time I was writing music for The Design’s new album (book in one hand, guitar in the other). I wanted a “call to arms” song, and The Hunger Games was such an inspiration. Here was a girl, standing against all odds, fighting for what she believed in. The scene after the hospital is blown up has such an oomph to it (and I’m so excited to see how they handle it with the film. I’m sure it will be amazing, since Jennifer Lawrence is such a strong actress.). — Kat Robichaud on the inspiration for Burn
