District 14 is a segment where we talk about things belong the realm of the Hunger Games.

Now that you are done with the Hunger Games what do you read? The answer comes in Sarah J. Mass's 'Throne of Glass'

Summary: 18 year old Celaena Sardothien has spent the last year slaving away in the salt mines as punishment for being the world's most feared assassin. Her imprisonment ends when the Crown Prince Dorian drags her out of the mines.

Crown Prince Dorian has personally chosen Celaena to compete to become the King's personal assassin. In this competition a group of nobles each choose a "champion" to compete in a series of tests. The last contestant standing win!

Opinion: I knew from the first page of this book that I would enjoy it. There is something about Celaena that draws you in. The character is such a perfect blend of a beautiful normal girl and a kick ass assassin. The light romance in the book is perfectly plotted with the turmoil and mystery of the situation.

There is definitely some hinting at a love triangle going on although it is never completely defined.

(Team Dorian!)

In terms of complaints... I was left in a bit of a fog for some parts of the book and I did wish we could have made more emphasis on some Dorian scenes.

Stars: 4/5

5 Stars: We should remake this website about this book. 4 Stars: The odds were in this book's favor. 3 Stars: Good enough. 2 Stars: Bloodbath. 1 Star: This book should never be read, ever!

Okay, we get it! Battle Royal and The Hunger Games have the same generalized theme. Kids fight in an arena to death. Other than that the books are in no way, shape, or form the same! The things that make The Hunger Games a great book (characters, tone, and voice) are NOT in Battle Royal (Not that Battle Royal is a bad book).

So, is The Hunger Games a rip off of Battle Royal? The answer is no. In fact, the idea of youth on youth arena violence goes way back. So technically both  are ripping off the ancient Greeks and Romans.

P.S. To all of the Battle Royal fans who have commented under the Hunger Games trailer saying "The Hunger Games is a crappy version of Battle Royal." Please understand that Battle Royal is NOT an original theme!

In the Hunger Games series and movie White Roses play a symbolic part of President Snow's persona. President Snow is known for smelling like blood and roses and tends to a costly rose garden. There are three points in the book where roses are very symbolic.

In Catching Fire Katniss discovers that President Snow smells of 'blood and roses'.

In the first chapter of Mockingjay Katniss finds white roses left on her dresser. Katniss believes that these roses were left by President Snow (she believes they are meant to say 'I can find you').

In the middle of Mockingjay we learn that President Snow smells like roses because of poison.

One of the things I liked best in the Hunger Games movie was that white roses were everywhere. The apartment and train were covered in them! I thought this was a very good way to sneak in some symbolism.

What is your opinion of the symbolism and effect of white roses in the Hunger Games?

P.S Just note that President Snow's roses were genetically enchanced!

Suzanne Collins never gave us a specific time of year that the annual games took place, but compiling several facts you can conclude that it happened during the summer.

This would make the most sense because of when the kids would be out of school. The kids would be on odds if some kid was fighting to the death. Not to mention you would not have to interrupt school to watch the games.

The most confirming fact is that the Victory Tour was halfway between the games and it was in the winter. Logically you can conclude that the games occurred during the summer. (Talk about a scary summer vacation!)

The most amazing thing happened today! I was on my Pandora playlist and guess what came on? Eyes Wide Open (Taylor Swift, Hunger Games Soundtrack).  Suprisingly this is the first time I have had anything from The Hunger Games on my playlist. I just had to share it:)

An interview with Katniss's (Jennifer Lawrence) stylist revealed some pretty juicy information. The stylist revealed that Katniss wears a 50s style pink dress upon her return to District 12. Pink! I bet Katniss was not too happy about that dress. I feel a bit odd about Katniss's interview dress that was seen in the trailer, because it was pretty ugly. How do they expect to portray Cinna with a dress like that. The thing that worries me most is that designing a decent dress is not that hard, and if they skimped on this... Will this movie just be a disappointment?
Note: According to my memory Katniss did wear a pale pink strapless dress to a banquet in district 11.
