The Mass. salon Maxine will be holding a raffle for a replica of a Capitol/Effie wig. Tickets can be bought at the salon or on paypal for $10 each.
Cherry Petenbrink generously donated a wig she created to replicate those used in the Hunger Games film to Maxime Salon to be raffled off for Learn Live Love, a cancer outreach organization local to Massachusetts. We will be selling raffle tickets for $10 from now until October 30. Each client can purchase up to 10 raffle tickets. All proceeds will be donated to Learn Live Love to offer financial assistance to women and families affected by cancer. It’s a fun way to contribute to a great cause (and just in time for Halloween!)

Jennifer Lawrence has been named the face of the new Miss Dior Bag.
She had just turned twenty and was already nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in  Winter’s Bone. In this dense and profound film, she played a headstrong and world-wise teenager ready to stop at nothing to save her little brother and sister, and the roof over their heads. Without skipping a beat, she headed in a very different direction for her next role as Mystique, the blue mutant in the  X Men film franchise.   This year, her star has shone ever more brightly with  The Hunger Games, The House At The End of The Street and  Silver Linings Playbook providing further proof of her multifaceted talent, with rumors already swirling of her appearances generating a host of upcoming nomination and awards.
In the meantime, one thing remains a certainty, and it’s that this young rising star of cinema will be the face of the Miss Dior bag for next spring.  “Like everyone else, I first discovered Jennifer Lawrence in the roles she played in action movies,”remembers Raf Simons, creative director of woman’s wear for Christian Dior. “I was, of course, struck by her incredible on-screen presence in these blockbuster films, but also impressed by her powerful interpretations of subtler, more rounded characters. Her youth and her classic beauty, but also her force of character and the complexity she’s capable of embodying at such a young age, are, for me, both unique and very moving.”
Miss Dior, is itself today’s iconic youthful bag.
Young women know what they want, and it’s carefully crafted in the choicest leathers. With young women live multiple lives each day, it can be carried chicly by hand or slung easily over a shoulder. Just as all women are not the same, the bags come in a seemingly endless combination of colors and materials.
“I’m very excited at the idea of working with Dior and wearing Raf Simons’ new creations,” says Jennifer Lawrence of her first partnership with a fashion house. His debut ready-to-wear and haute couture have distilled all the glamour of Dior into the modern era.”

Episode 34 of the Nightlock Podcast has been released. You can listen to it here.
Episode 34: You Need CounsellingWe announce the nominations for PodCastAwards.com have started, please nominate Nightlock Podcast for the two categories Culture/Arts and General. Our new logo is revealed, along with an email subscription to stay updated with the show. News announcements include 3 more casting announcements which are probably the last. One of our most extensive chapter analysis on Chapter 8 of Catching Fire brings up many topics. Should the rebels killed Katniss as a martyr? Was Katniss a true leader? Why is the form of punishment so low-tech while in the districts it is high-tech? Would Katniss be open to counselling?

Willow Shields has been given a role in an upcoming indie 'Conversation With Andy'.
Artist Andy Warhol is at the center of “Conversations With Andy,” a new indie film from Narrator Entertainment that will star Ty Simpkins (“Insidious”), David Mazouz (“Touch”) and Willow Shields (“The Hunger Games”).
Based on the true story of Palitz’s childhood, “Conversations With Andy” is a coming-of-age film set in 1984 New York that follows sixth-grader Ben (Simpkins), who befriends Andy Warhol at the same time that he learns his parents are discussing divorce. With the artist’s guidance, as well as the help of his older sister (Shields) and best friend (Mazouz), Ben hatches a plan to throw his parents an anniversary party in hopes of keeping them together.

The American Library Association has named 'Hunger Games' at the #3 Most Challenged Book of 2011.
Of course, making the challenged books list isn’t necessarily a good thing — although many authors today have embraced it as a badge of honor. Books on this list are those most frequently challenged by parents and adults around the country, who want the book banned from libraries and/or school reading lists.
Part of what Banned Books Week celebrates is the fact that, despite these challenges, we live in a country where these books do remain on the library shelves. (The fight gets murkier when it comes to schools, where parents generally have more sway, and teachers are often forced to change their reading list or offer alternatives to the children of disgruntled parents.)

Some more photos of the Catching Fire set have emerged on the internet. These photos are taken from the Marriot Marquis in downtown Atlanta.

From OLV:
We have a few more photos from the Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta where they are building an elaborate rooftop set for tomorrow’s Catching Fire shoot.
As you can see, they’ve finished the stage and runway, and added a green screen since our last look. Hopefully we’ll be able to get a glimpse at exactly what they are filming too!

The Tonner Doll Company has released the Peeta Mellark doll (previously they released the Gale and Katniss dolls).

I think Peeta looks a bit young, but the clothes are very well made (I did hope they would do them book-inspired and not movie inspired). What do you think? You can head over to Tonner Dolls for more information.
